Jana Riemslagh

Junior associate
Jana Riemslagh was driven to the legal profession from a strong interest in human rights and a deeply rooted sense of justice. Drawing on her international experiences, she now wishes to grow into a thorough criminal and human rights lawyer under the watchful eye of Johan Heymans and An-Sofie Raes.

Jana Riemslagh

Criminal law

Jana Riemslagh obtained her Master of Laws (magna cum laude) at the University of Ghent in June 2018. During her studies, she was always fascinated by human rights and criminal law.

She participated in the Inter-American Moot Court Competition in Washington, at which her team received an award for the “second best written memorial”. In the run-up to this Moot Court, she was immersed in the world of international human rights, stimulating her passion for advocacy, as well as her urge to defend those who are ill-treated by the government. A volunteer project in a human rights office in South Africa in the summer of 2018 sparked her interest in the legal profession. She completed her educational path with successfully obtaining an LL.M in Human Rights at the University of Edinburgh and an educational internship at NGO UN House Edinburgh.

With an open mind, drive and the necessary legal-technical baggage, Jana Riemslagh joined Van Steenbrugge Advocaten in October 2019.
